Hydra has approximately 12 fishing families who go to sea for 2 or 3 days at a time to bring home a catch.
What they catch depends on the time of year and it's always interesting to check out the trays they display on the front of their boats when they arrive back in harbour.
Some of the local restaurants buy fish straight off the boats but it's mainly local families who are the fishermen's customers.
As soon as the boats arrive in the harbour at about 8 in the morning everyone gathers to get the best of the catch.
The harbour cats of Hydra are some of the best fed street cats on the island. They regularly dine on 'Sushi' that the fishermen throw to them. Some cats will even board the boats to get preferential treatment!
