Whichever travel option you prefer, remember that at the end of your journey a sea trip is unavoidable as there is no airport. Even if you fly by helicopter, which can't land on Hydra, you will still need to be on the sea for the 3 minute sea taxi trip from Kivitos into Hydra Harbour. For most people, the arrival point on Hydra Island is in Hydra Harbour, the hub of the island. This is where the passenger catamarans, as well as the passenger ferries from Metochi & Ermioni and the sea taxis disembark everyone.
AIA (fly) - Piraeus (road) - Hydra (passenger Hydrofoil, by sea)
Landing at Athens Airport and picking up a car rental so you can drive yourself across the Peloponnese and down to Metochi or Ermioni couldn't be easier. RentalCars.com have a great site where you can choose from all of the hire companies based at the airport with prices starting from €9 per day . This gives you the option to explore more of the mainland on the way with secure parking at Metochi before catching a passenger ferry (25 mins) to Hydra or you can park at Ermioni to travel on to Hydra with the Christos passenger ferry.
The Christos passenger ferry is a wonderful service connecting Hydra Island with the Peloponnese mainland at the seaside village of Ermioni. The ferry operates out of Hydra Harbour with at least 4 sailings every day of the year, except Christmas Day. (Subject to weather and occasional downtime for maintenance or repairs.)

AIA (Fly) - Car to Varkiza - Hydra (Nakas Boat Rentals)
Luxury cruise and VIP treatment all the way from Nakas Rentals. Start your holiday sooner - your luggage is stowed away, there's a cabin to change into your swimwear, refreshments already on board. You can stop off at different coves along the way for a swim. It's like adding an extra day to your holiday!
Hydra harbour is not just beautiful but small - one of everyone's favourite hobbies is watching yachts moor up (and rather wickedly, it's wonderfully amusing when they get in a muddle!) Regular visitors with yachts or cruise boats will know the routine, but for those who don't, the official Harbour Master's Coastguard office number is +(30) 22980 52279.
