Born in 1956, Andreas Horstmann is an autodidact artist with a German surname - and - a Greek first name. Since August 2016 Andreas spends most of his time on the island of Hydra and enjoys working/painting as an artist under the Greek sun.
Biography
Andreas's first “artistic touch“ came as he studied landscape gardening in his younger years. However, life is always full of surprises and he ended up working as a surveyor/camp manager and other interesting activities in different countries of the world such as Libya, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, the Sultanate of Oman, Mali, Timbuktu and Germany.
It was in 2011 that his “artistic touch“ really came to life. He first started with sculptures and expanded his work with paintings. He enhanced his knowledge by following a few workshops at the - “Akademie Wildkogel“ (Austria) - “Middelmann-Art Atelier“ (Munich, Fahrenzhausen, Germany) - "Art-Experimental-Atelier" (Hamburg, Luckau, Germany) - "Annette-Predeek-Atelier" (Remagen, Bonn, Germany).
Essentially an abstract painter he always tries (for him) new techniques such as swab and scraper as well as collages. His work on Hydra has been annually presented at the Melina Mercouri Hall group exhibitions and he has had two solo shows.
