Avlaki Beach, as with Spilia, should really be described as a sunbathing and swimming area as there is very little beach to speak of.
It is on the first sweeping bend as you come out of Hydra Harbour, on the road to Kamini going west. Turn off the coast road, opposite the Techne Restaurant and down the zig-zag steps.
It is a quiet, uncrowded swimming area which isn't suitable for young families as you get straight into deep water very quickly as you will be able to see from the banner photo for this page. Also, a big deterrent is the climb, both down and of course, back up!
There are no organised facilities for Avlaki, so you will need to bring your own refreshments. However, the Techne Restaurant is opposite the steps to Avlaki Beach on the main coast road. They do excellent light meals and refreshments from midday 'till late at night. They also have a few tables with chairs outside the restaurant where they serve wonderful drinks and home-made icecreams. A reward for when you climb up from the beach at the end of a busy day topping up your tan.
And, don't forget your suntan lotion because there is very little shade and the beach is a suntrap from midday until late in the afternoon.
The only means of reaching this area is to walk from town.
