Sailing on Calypso - Boat rental and daily cruises

Calypso is a traditional Greek 'Trexantiri' sailing boat to hire by the day or for short trips from Hydra Island Greece. A Trexantiri is a handcrafted wooden boat with a wide beam and is perfect for days out on the sea for up to 10 people to share.

Calypso is a comfortable 14.5 meters in length. On board, you will find lots of space to move about easily with wide wooden walkways made of teak that are non-slip and deliciously warm underfoot.

The upper cabin is fitted with:

Seating and dining areas,
The Captain's chair.

Below deck there is:

The galley with a fridge/freezer and cooking facilities
2 shower rooms
Crew bunk room (not available to guest) and
Master bedroom with a double and single bed (available for guests to use)

On Deck

You will find plenty of sunbathing space on the mid-deck with cushion sunbeds.
We have a fold out table and chairs which can also be transported to a beach that you might like to visit.
We have a tender boat with an outboard engine to get you from Calypso to any small beaches you want to explore.

Safety First

Starting from Hydra harbour in the morning, you will be met by Nektaria, your host for the day, with a welcome drink and a quick but necessary safety talk. The Calypso Captain and Nekraria are both experienced at sea and know Calypso well. They have advanced qualifications are fully licenced and insured. You will be in safe hands but all the same, it is a legal obligation to show where all the safety equipment is kept, how to use it and what to do in an emergency.

When you book, you will need to list everyone who will be on board because this information must be given to the coast guard (port police)prior to setting off.

Where you can explore

On Calypso, you can sail around the island stopping off where you want for a swim or explore a natural beach. Or we can take you across to Dokos Island. The day is yours and so long as we know where you want to go before we leave so we can let the coast guard know, your sea adventure's destination is your decision.

Afternoon Siesta

A day in the fresh air and on the open sea can be tiring especially for youngsters and so even on a day trip, our forward cabin with a double and single bed is available for 'power naps' or you can siesta on the mid-deck.

Honeymoon Short Trips

At the end of your wedding on Hydra, what better than to wave goodbye to your guests and sail away for a few romantic days at sea together. We will be happy to take you for a honeymoon cruise to whatever destination you prefer. We can either return you to Hydra or drop you off somewhere else. Again, your itinerary is up to you. Please contact us to discuss your preferences.

Maximum on Board

Calypso has 2 crew and is licensed and insured to carry a maximum of 10 guests.

Refreshments and Food on Board

Whether you are going on a day trip or a short cruise, planning who is going to bring what food & drink, is part of the fun of a boat picnic. We include water and ice in our price but our guests bring their own refreshments, etc. So you might want to visit the shops before or even get one of the tavernas or cafes to pack you a picnic. We have glasses, plates and cutlery on board for you to use as well as space in the galley to store your provisions until you want to eat.

Price

From €800 for all day, max passengers 4

(Please enquire about price for longer trips and/or more passengers, up to a maximum of 10.)

Price includes 2 crew members (a legal must), wine, beers, refreshments and cold water.

Day starts at approximately 10:00 - 18:00 (negotiable)

Destination and distance: to where you want to go so long as it is possible to get there and back within a day.

Payment

A 20% deposit is required to hold a booking. In the case of guests cancelling up to 8 weeks prior to date booked, this deposit is refundable. If cancelled by the guest with less than 8 weeks notice, the deposit is not refundable.

The balance of payment is due on the day in cash at the start of the trip.

Although the weather is consistently sunny and calm for most of the year, occasionally there can be days when it's just too rough to be fun. If you have booked a day when this happens, we will do our best to reschedule your trip for another day of your holiday. But if this is not possible we will refund your payment in full.
