Located in the picturesque Kamini Harbour, there are no steps to this house so it is very suitable for anyone with walking difficulties so long as they can manage a couple of steps inside the house.
This immaculately presented Hydra holiday house to rent was renovated over three years and completed in 2021. It's tucked back to the side of the quaint old harbour of Kamini and offers a stylish blend of old charm and modern comfort. Completed to a very high standard, I personally recommend it to those who like to enjoy the antique Hydra character of ''real island houses" but unobtrusively blended with modern comforts. You will get a real sense of gentile island living from the last century but with none of the inconvenience. In my view, Anna has done a magnificent job with her much loved family home. You can book with confidence. Regards, Kelsey.
In the words of Anna
Captain’s Lodge is an enchanting island retreat acquired in the mid-1800s by my seafaring ancestors who made their fortune sailing their sponge diving boats as far as the notorious Barbary coastline. While retaining the beauty and grace of centuries past, this stone-built gem was delightfully renovated in 2021, offering a stylish blend of old charm and modern comfort.
Tucked in the quaint old harbor of Kamini, just a twenty-minute stroll from the town of Hydra—with no stair climbing involved!, the residence consists of a main building, which accommodates up to four people, and a studio house that can host up to two guests. The two buildings,
which can only be rented together, are independent from each other with separate street entrances, and share an interior courtyard concealed by a protective wall that was built in the 19th century to deter invading pirates.
Main Building
Upon entering the principal 102sqm building, you are immediately enveloped by a classy ambience underscored by a fine selection of original antique furniture and ornaments handed down for generations. From my great-grandmother’s commode to the sepia photographs hanging on the walls, the lodge’s interior spaces radiate an air of warmth and well being, evoking the intimacy of a cherished home during the island’s golden years. A master bedroom with a king-size bed and a separate, spacious guestroom featuring two twin beds share a luxurious marble-clad bathroom with a walk-in rain shower. The villa’s front porch, touched by Hydra’s coastal magic and almost lapped by the storied waters of the Aegean, is a romantic and tranquil place to dine on a summer evening while soaking up the changing hues of the sunset.
Studio
Graced by antique nautical objects and display china plates, the one-space 55sqm studio house is discreetly divided into a generous living room with an open-plan kitchen and a spacious guest room with two twin beds that convert into an almost king-sized bed.
Both buildings lead out to a secluded courtyard that conveys an idyllic quality suggestive of summer ease and quiet reverie. Perfumed with herbs and aromatic plants, and partially shaded by lemon and mandarin trees, it is ideal for al fresco dining or a movie night under the stars.
Please note that Captain’s Lodge is a strictly non-smoking and non-vaping residence. Guests are kindly requested to refrain from smoking or vaping in indoor and outdoor areas.
