Father Christmas visited Hydra Island this morning (Sunday 17 Dec. 2107) much to the delight of children young and old. Christmas has now officially started on Hydra!
Yet again the wonderful team of Elves, led by Sotiris Iliadis and Angeliki Stroumbouli, directors of Υδραγωγής (Ydragogis) the charitable side of the Hydra Language School, hosted Hydra's very own Father Christmas this morning in town.
Rumour has it, that Father Christmas actually lives in disguise on Hydra Island all year! Where he lives is a closely guarded secret by all the 'big' children, to avoid upsetting the little children.
The Υδραγωγής 'Fund-raising for Education' Bazaar was in full swing, (and will be for another week) selling wonderful art and craft Christmas gifts. This was where Father Christmas had his 'Grotto' and the island's children waited patiently to sit on his knee for photo opportunities and to be given a Christmas gift.
The Hydra Language School is a private school for the instruction of foreign languages on the island of Hydra in Greece. It employs 8 teachers and has about 170 students. In September 2008 we celebrated the opening of our new space. The building consists of 5 classrooms, a computer lab and a large indoor space for school events and various activities.
