In 2019, I wrote ...
"After an almost complete rebuild, the Kranidiotis Family are thrilled to have moved back to their familiar corner and are fully open and operational again. To celebrate the reopening of their shop, Antonis is naming it "Hydra Home" although it has to be said that I think he will never live down the names of 'The Plastic Man' or 'Antonis With Everything'. I am thrilled that everything is not only back where it belongs but with much more space and good shelving. I wish Antonis, his wife Vaso and their sons Panagiotis and Spiros many more years of offering EVERYTHING!
... Today, I still wish the family who operate this 'Aladdin's Cave' of useful 'prágmata' (things) all the very best. Quite aside from the things they sell, I love them for the friendly good morning and smiles each time I pass on the way to and from the port. And Antonis' gleeful grin when he miraculously produces exactly what I'd been miming for ten minutes (liquidiser is a tricky one) with the relish of a magician.
From homeware, cooking utensils, small electrical appliances, plastic storage, compost & pots, folding chairs, those wonderful big pegs to keep your beach towel in place on your sunbed (and yes they sell towels too) to all types of detergent, toiletries, mops, buckets and as you'll see in the photos, the list goes on.
The island's visitors will find lots of useful items too at Hydra's answer to IKEA (but without the meatballs).
In addition to insect repellent, batteries, packs of tissues and wipes, beach toys, glassware (just in case you have a mishap in the house you're staying at) you will also find the iconic Greek wine jugs and have a good supply of the pretty Hydriot flag to take home with you as a memento.
