Even though it's a holiday weekend, or more likely because it is, Greece's shipping unions are on strike on Monday 1st of May. So no Hellenic Seaways cats or dolphins will be sailing to or from Hydra.
For visitors and guests temporarily stranded on the island for slightly longer than anticipated, the sun has come out just time for the live music event at the Enalion Restaurant today's lunch at 14:00.
And tomorrow, lunch at Marina's Taverna has live guitar music and the weather forecast predicts wonderfully sunny weather.
The first of May, May Day, isn't just a political bank holiday (although as the boats always seem to go on strike on the first it seems like it|) but is a cultural day as well. It's when locals spend time out in the glorious Hydra countryside, collecting flowers which are woven into wreaths to decorate above front doors of homes and shops. So it's very much an annual event on Hydra!
