Full Description

Olive Tree house to rent for holidays on Hydra Island for 2 couples or a family of 4 people. This 2 floor holiday accommodation comprises: 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom, 1 shower room, large living space upstairs with sea facing balcony with spectacular panoramic views, kitchen inside plus full outside kitchen for summer dining on terrace overlooking gorgeous garden and courtyard.

Olive Tree House is in an elevated position above Hydra Harbour. You can enjoy stunning, panoramic views of both Kamini Village as well as Hydra Town and all the way across the Saronic Gulf to the Peloponnese mainland. Here you will appreciate peace and quiet with only the buzzing of cicadas to serenade you from the olive tree. The Olive Tree House is a fantastic location to base yourself for out-of-season walking holidays as it's close to the routes up to the mountains behind for hikes to Episkopi, over the top of the island to Limnioniza or up to the monastery of Profitis Ilias. Alternatively, it is only 100 meters from the inland road to Vlychos and beyond going west.

Ground Floor

Typical of an authentic Hydra house, the bedrooms are on the ground floor which helps to maintain coolness when you are sleeping. So from the lower courtyard, you enter the main door into an entrance hall with doors to both bedrooms and the shower room. There is plenty of space in the entrance hall to set up a laptop station next to the WiFi modem and telephone for incoming calls for those of you who need to stay in touch with the office or family.

Double Bedroom

You will find a comfortable queen-size double bed and built in wardrobes & drawers so you can unpack to feel at home. There is air-conditioning as well as a fan if you prefer. The window has external shutters if you prefer the room to be dark when you are sleeping in late in the morning but if you leave them open, you will wake to spectacular sea views to enjoy with your breakfast in bed.

Twin Bedroom

The twin bedroom has two full-size comfortable single beds in a small but well appointed room which has a high window set in the traditional thick walls so it is particularly cool. There is of course air-conditioning for those who want it to be even cooler. As with the double bedroom there is plenty of cupboard space to enable you to hang your clothes and unpack.

The Shower Room

The shower room is neat and clean with a toilet, hand basin with vanity unit and mirror, good lighting for doing your makeup and an enormous shower cubicle that has good water pressure.

Top Floor Living Space

There are internal stone stairs from the ground floor entrance hall, but you can also enter the house from the top floor back door that is reached via steps from the courtyard. This is useful if people are sleeping in the bedrooms and you don't want to disturb them. The top floor is an open living space with cool stone floor tiles and an open to the rafters ceiling.

Living Space

The sofa is a comfortable place to enjoy a 'siesta' with views out of the balcony doors to the sea. The sofa also opens to a full-size double bed which makes for very flexible sleeping arrangements if four single friends are travelling together.

You will find plenty of occasional tables which you are welcome to rearrange to suit. The wood burning open fireplace works but it is doubtful you will need it during the early and late season. (Please note however, that you are welcome to use it but wood is not supplied in the rental price.)

Kitchen

In the corner of the living space there is the interior kitchen with a shallow sink under the sea facing window, a fridge, kettle as well as a teapot for tea drinkers, a coffee maker, toaster and microwave. There are plenty of utensils, crockery and glasses, etc.

You will also enjoy the novelty of using the outside kitchen for alfresco dining. The outside kitchen area also has a fridge, hot plates (which can be moved inside during out-of-season stays and more cooking equipment. There is a dining area on the upper terrace or you can go through the living space to the balcony at the front so you have spectacular views while you dine.

The Top Floor Balcony

From the living space, glazed, double doors take you to the sea-facing balcony which has one of the most spectacular panoramic views of the island - all of Hydra seems to be laid out before you like a banquet for the eyes!

As the balcony is north-facing you can enjoy watching the sun rising in the morning and it setting in the evening. If there are clouds or a haze over the Peloponnese at sundown the sky is painted magnificent shades of orange, purple and red which are even more dazzling if there are gaps in the clouds so you get shafts of light bouncing off the sea too. So artists and photographers will really want to remember to bring their brushes and cameras with them.

Outside Living

The outside areas are on three levels. The lower courtyard has a large shady olive tree in the centre. The next level has a built in sofa with comfy cushions and a table. And then a few more steps to the top terrace with the outside kitchen and dining area at the back of the house. On this level there is also a 'garden' area planted with lemon trees and shrubs. You are welcome to pick the lemons and use them for lemonade or your evening G&T when they are in season.

You will also find outside taps with hoses attached so that you can cool off if you are sunbathing and don't want to go inside to use the more conventional shower.

Hospitality

Your host at the Olive Tree House is Sue. She keeps the house to a very high standard and will leave all the information you might need in the house folder on the entrance hall cabinet next to the WiFi modem so you can find your way around not only the house but where the local restaurants are, how to call a sea taxi, getting to the beach and emergency information etc. Sue is very aware of the fact that guests are particularly charmed by the privacy of the house, so once you are settled in, she will leave it up to you to contact her if you need help. She will of course be there to meet you in the port when you arrive and will have arranged mules to transfer your luggage up to the house. And most importantly, she will walk up to the house with you, pointing out all the attractions along the way at the same time as marking each turning with chalk so that you can follow them later without getting lost in the charming streets of Hydra.

I look forward to welcoming you to Hydra Island Greece and Olive Tree House for your next Hydra holidays.
