For such a tiny island Hydra is host to some huge names throughout the summer with international artists ranging from sculptors, symphony orchestra musicians and painters, During the season Hydra becomes an absolute melting pot of renown world and Greek talent.
Dakis Ioannis annually introduces the island to international artists, such as Kara Walker, Kaari Upson, Kiki Smith, David Shrigley, Kostis Velonis and for 2021 Jeff Koons. Operates from the old Slaughterhouse from mid-June to October.
Dimitrios Antonitsis presents a cast of international artists with the Hydra School Projects which take place in the Merchant Marine Academy. Past artists include: David Hockney, Daniel Silver, Alicja Kwade, Gregor Hildebrandt & Brice Marden et. al.
The Municipality of Hydra runs the Melina Mercouri Hall with many community events during the winter months and a varied diary of art exhibitions throughout the summer.
Director and museum curator Dina Adamopoulou presents a busy and varied schedule of book readings, lectures, art exhibitions and music concerts throughout the season.
